Radio Communications training is covered during a cadets basic training and carries on as a project throughout the cadets career with the Squadron. Upon completion of basic training, known as First Class, each cadet will become a Provisional Radio Operator which qualifies them to operate ATC radios under instruction by qualified cadets and staff. As part of their project work, cadets have the chance to progress onto their Full VHF Operator certificate and the Air Cadet Communicator Badge. The Air Cadet Communicator Badge is a challenging qualification and involves the cadets working through six modules before they complete the course. The Squadron has an excellent reputation for excellence in the field of radio communications!

The Squadron operates a number of different radio platforms on military frequencies including base stations, hand-held and an ex-military Land Rover Defender (owned by the OC - see below) which is fitted out with ATC radios. Combined, this equipment gives us the ability to offer varied and interesting radio training based both on and off the Squadron. All of our radio training is risk assessed and all activities are carried out by qualified/competent instructors.
