Squadron HQ & Aim

2510 (West Denton) Squadron is located in West Denton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in a new Headquarters facility which was finished in January 2007.  We are an incredibly active Squadron which aims to give our cadets a ‘good ATC’; this means that our goal is to offer each and every cadet the opportunity to get involved in the widest range of activities possible!

Command and Control

The Squadron is commanded by an Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training branch) officer who is ably assisted by a mix of uniformed ATC Adult Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, non-uniformed Adult Staff known as Civilian Instructors, Cadet Non-Commissioned Officers and a highly active Civilian Committee.    All of the Adult Staff are Criminal Record Bureau (Enchanced) cleared to work with children and are screened prior to their entry into the organisation.  Uniformed staff receive 28 days pay a year and all staff are able to claim for travel to and from duty; other than this, all of the staff work on a volunteer basis for the cadets of the Squadron giving up significant amounts of spare time outside of their professional careers.  Without the Adult Staff, the Squadron would not be able to function!  If you are interested in becoming an Adult Member of staff, click “Join Us” in the main navigation bar at the top of this page.

Squadron Crest

Our recently developed Squadron crest depicts a barrage balloon above an RAF eagle.  The barrage balloon was chosen because the Squadron is headquartered on the land of a former balloon flight of 936 (County of Northumberland) Squadron, Royal Air Force which was HQ’d at Longbenton.  936 Squadron’s four flights of barrage balloons provided close air defence for Newcastle-upon-Tyne during World War Two and in view of this heritage, it was decided to adopt the barrage balloon logo.

The RAF eagle is also included in the crest to reinforce our close working relationship with the Royal Air Force.  The motto, Acies means “keenness” or “agility”; both of which apply to the cadets drive and enthusiasm at 2510 Squadron!
